Every now and then I like to work on a detailed piece. Unfortunately they take so much time that the price is usually high. Actually I just charge as much per hour as I do on my other carvings. While I do not claim that these are accurate ornithological studies I do try to put enough razzel-dazzel into them to impress.
This Bobwhite Quail was done in 1993 and has been in my personal collection since then. He is life sized (10 inches tall) and carved from basswood, painted with acrylics and has glass eyes. The feet and legs were purchased and are cast in pewter. I had to add more detail and paint them.
